Serious punishment for social media harassment: Women's Commission provides legal support to Ramya's case

The Women's Commission has now taken suo motu cognisance of the incident in which Sandalwood actress Ramya has been receiving obscene messages on Instagram. Commission chairperson Nagalakshmi Choudhary has warned that "if obscene words are used, there is a possibility of imprisonment of three to seven years".
"No woman should be disrespected. The consequences of your bad words may be serious for you one day," he said. The Women's Commission has now decided to write to the police commissioner in connection with the case.
Darshan's fans have been constantly sending obscene messages on social media to actress Ramya, who is standing by the family of the victims in the Renukaswamy murder case. Ramya condemned this and revealed their accounts and is ready for legal action.
Amid this development, the women's commission's firm stand is commendable from the point of view of safety and dignity of women on social media.
