The Supreme Court on Friday expressed displeasure over the Karnataka High Court's order granting bail to 17 people, including actor Darshan, the main accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. In this appeal-based hearing of the government, the apex court took serious note of the high court's lack of discretion and non-acceptance of evidence.

Justice J.B. Pardiwala and R. A bench headed by Justice Mahadevan, after hearing the arguments of the counsel appearing for Darshan and Pavithra Gowda, said, "Is it right for the High Court to pass such a bail order? Is it the judicial process that a decision is given without considering the evidence?"

The apex court said the high court's verdict was framed on the lines of ordinary bail applications and was not treated as a typical case but was delivered in a manner that directly benefited the accused.

"How can it be that the incident itself is a lie? Shouldn't the test reports be considered?" the court asked Darshan's counsel. "The trial court may make a mistake, but it is difficult to accept the legitimate reasons given by the high court," the bench said.

After all these hearings, the Supreme Court announced that it would announce its verdict after 10 days, thereby reaching a crucial stage in the bail fate of Darshan and other accused. Meanwhile, the observations made by the court have now led to a huge debate on social media.
