The state government has announced a new award in the name of veteran actress and five-language star late B Saroja Devi, who was a living legend of Kannada cinema. This award is called 'Abhinaya Saraswathi' award which is given to women artistes who have served for at least 25 years.
Highlights of the Award:
- Name of the Award: Abhinaya Saraswathi
- Eligibility: Candidates who have served the Kannada film industry for at least 25 years
- Honours: Rs 1 lakh cash and 100 grams silver medal
Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee B. Saroja Devi is a five-language star who has acted in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi films. The title of "Abhinaya Saraswathi" has now become a tribute to women achievers in Kannada cinema.
The award has been instituted by the State Government under the Kannada Film Policy-2011 and has been included in the annual State Film Awards List (Annexure-1)**. Through this, a tribute will be paid to the achievers who have worked tirelessly and dedicated their lives in the Kannada film industry.
The announcement of the 'Abhinaya Saraswathi Award' is a new chapter in the history of Kannada cinema.
This is not just a tribute but a tribute to the spirit of women artists who dreamt and worked hard like B. Saroja Devi.
