The recently released film 'Kottalavadi' in Kannada cinema has created a wave of new debates and controversies. Produced by Pushpa Arun Kumar, popularly known as Yash's mother, the film hit the screens on August 1. Starring Prithvi Amber in the lead role, the film also stars Gopal Deshpande, Rajesh Nataranga and many others in pivotal roles.

But at a time when the story, acting style and technicalities of the film were to be discussed, negative reviews started doing the rounds on social media as soon as the film was released. Reacting to this, producer Pushpa said, "The government should take action against those who are doing negative publicity without watching the film."

Pushpa's anger;

  • "Some people who saw the promotions of our film spread negative talk even before the release of the film."
  • "Making a film is not an easy task, we work hard in the midst of ten difficulties to bring the film to the screen."
  • "There is no problem in reviewing a film after watching it, but it is unethical to spread misinformation without watching it," he said.

He went further and said, "I will meet the chief minister and complain about it. If action is not taken, we will fight a fierce battle with Rockline Venkatesh," he said. According to Pushpa, the main reason why many films in Kannada cinema are not doing as expected, is because of the "keyboard critics" who abuse them without looking. "I will withstand my investment. But it is not tolerable to harm another. We have to take a collective decision against such people." Within a few days of the film's release, negative comments circulated in the film, raising fears among the producers that the audience will lose their popularity.
According to Pushpa, such unauthorized abuses are a direct blow to the film's box office collection and the morale of the team.

With Pushpa seeking to draw the attention of the government, a debate on taking legal action against "not-notated abuse" in the Kannada film industry may begin. While this may provide some protection to the producers, it may also challenge the right of the audience to share their opinions. The 'Kottalwadi' controversy is still fresh. How much impact Pushpa's warning will have on the government and the film industry will be known in the coming days. But one thing is certain – the fight for negative publicity vs producers in Kannada cinema has now entered a new phase.
