Actresses appeal to CM Siddaramaiah to award Karnataka Ratna posthumously to Dr. Vishnuvardhan, Sarojadevi

Senior artistes from Karnataka, especially actresses, met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today (September 3) at his residence in Cauvery and submitted an important memorandum. Late actor Dr. He also requested for the Karnataka Ratna award posthumously on Vishnuvardhan and late actress Saroja Devi. On the occasion of Vishnuvardhan's 75th birthday on September 18, senior actresses Jayamala, Shruthi and Malavika requested the CM to confer the Karnataka Ratna on him on the same day. He also asked saroja devi to be given the same honour.

"It is timely to give Karnataka Ratna to legendary artists like Vishnuvardhan and Saroja Devi. We have also requested that a road should be named after Saroja Devi. The CM responded positively and assured that he would discuss the matter in the cabinet," he said. "We are all fans of Vishnuvardhan sir. We have been demanding karnataka ratna for him and Saroja Devi madam. There is no politics in this," he said.

"Saroja Devi's residence is in Malleswaram. We have requested to name that road after him. The CM has agreed to it," he said. There has been a demand for the Karnataka Ratna award, the state's highest civilian honour, for Vishnuvardhan and Saroja Devi for their indelible contribution to Kannada cinema and an official announcement is now awaited from the government.
