Cabinet approves Karnataka Ratna for Vishnuvardhan posthumously

The Karnataka Cabinet on Wednesday approved the conferring of the Karnataka Ratna, the highest civilian award of the state, on Vishnuvardhan, the state's highest civilian award. The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah today.

In his long career, Vishnuvardhan acted in hundreds of films and left an indelible mark on the hearts of the audience through his varied roles. He was popularly known as the "Adventure Simha" for his work in action, family drama, comedy, social and emotional roles.

Vishnuvardhan's wife Bharathi Vishnuvardhan and son-in-law Anirudh had personally met CM Siddaramaiah and requested him for the award. Along with this, actresses Tara, Shruti, Malavika Avinash and others also met Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and urged them to do so. They had also met Shivakumar and the CM and urged them to do so.

Puneeth Rajkumar was posthumously conferred with the Karnataka Ratna Award. Now, Vishnuvardhan's name has been added to the list and fans are delighted. Vishnuvardhan's fans have welcomed the decision and are responding that "it is a late justice".

It is a matter of pride for him that his favourite actors have got the highest honour in the state. The government's decision to confer the Karnataka Ratna on saga simha Vishnuvardhan will remain another important milestone in the history of Kannada film industry.
